Lech Wieleba is a jazz musician born in Poland in the 1950s. He studied classical double bass and composition at the conservatory and at the same time played with the Gdansk State Opera and Philharmonic Orchestra. But then his passion for jazz overshadowed his other musical interests. At the age of 25, he played alongside Don Cherry at the Jazz Jantar Festival, in 1980 he was awarded the Krzysztof Komeda Prize by Sofia Komeda, won first prize at Jazz nad Odra in Wroclaw and performed at the Jazz Jamboree in Warsaw, the most important jazz festival in Eastern Europe.

From 1984, he worked from Hamburg, earning his living with recordings with Udo Lindenberg and Franz-Josef Degenhardt, with musical and film productions and as musical director of André Heller's Wintergarten-Variété. And quietly, in the closet and in the practice room, Wieleba worked on his POETIC JAZZ, his personal mixture of communicative urge and empathy, the warmth of Slavic melodies and the friction of complex harmonies, gently swinging flow and captivating presence, artistic precision and great technical skill. Lech Wieleba's music tells stories from everyday life, combining elements of classical music and jazz.

It is poetry without words.
